Nominated in the highly competitive student category, Death at Sea was honoured to make the shortlist. Although the film did not walk away as the winner, the team was grateful to be recognized alongside some of the most distinguished works in natural history filmmaking.

Jackson Wild celebrates the best of natural history filmmaking, with nominees and winners this year including renowned productions such as BBC’s Planet Earth 3 and National Geographic’s Queens.  The event was hosted by acclaimed filmmakers and National Geographic Explorers, Malaika Vaz and Filipe Deandrade.

The awards also recognized legendary environmentalist and filmmaker Mike H. Pandy with the 2024 Legacy Award, celebrating his work that has driven legislative protections for many species. The night’s top honor, the Grand Teton Award, went to Turtle Walker, a powerful story of one man’s mission to save India’s endangered sea turtles.

HRASi thanks the Jackson Wild jury for recognizing Death at Sea and looks forward to continuing its mission of creating films that advocate for conservation and human rights in the fisheries sector.
